Last night I talked with some of the older children trying to get them to open up about their lives and experience at the LOT Home. The children are very shy about speaking to me in English, and furthermore, communicating about feelings is not encouraged in this culture. Consequently, it is difficult for me to really unlock the door to their inner most thoughts. Every child told me they have learned so much at this Home. The children said they have learned life lessons – proper behavior, how to properly treat people, to help others, to love and praise God, among other things. Bina told me her favorite thing is the private evening devotions. The Home has group worship in the morning and evening with much singing, but I did not know about the private devotions. She told me that the girls in her room gather every evening before retiring; they read the Bible together and pray.
Sunil is now 18 years old. He is a very sweet young man, a hard worker, honest and responsible. He knows that he has had the same sponsor since he first arrived at the LOT Home as a very small boy. He is truly grateful for her faithfulness to him.
There was a common thread in the words of the children. Each one felt that the LOT Home was a real family for them. They have a sense of belonging. They expressed that Jonathan and Laxmi truly love them. How fortunate these children are to find refuge in this place! 🙂
