If you had seen me at 6 this morning, you would have known I was driving to the Power Stop, where I left Praveen to catch the shuttle to Denver. Actually I was still wearing my black polka dot pajamas under my coat; since it was still dark I figured no one would know the difference.
Praveen is a lovely, bright young man who graduated from St. Devi’s Academy over 6 years ago. He lived at and attended school at St. Devi’s before qualifying for an academic scholarship to a university in Nebraska. After a year he transferred to Columbia College in Denver where he graduated in May 2012. Praveen is half way through a MBA program. Between school and work he is kept very busy.
With an available long weekend and the need for some ‘down time’, he spent a few days with me, and my family. Olivia, my 2 ½ year old granddaughter took a real shine to her new friend, ‘Prabin’, as she called him. I remembered he was good with children. At St. Devi’s he was always helping one child or another with homework or he simply ‘hung out’ with them. He was equally as attentive with our little Olivia. I was not aware, though, that he was so adept in the kitchen. Not only did he deftly prepare 2 delicious curries served on brown rice, but he also cleaned up the kitchen!
For me, it’s always a delight to spend time with the children from the TWAM homes, but to see them grow into adulthood and to witness their achievements fills my heart to bursting! To develop a long-lasting friendship with a former student, like Praveen, is a divine dividend. The Psalmist says, ‘You (God) are the helper of the fatherless.’ I have witnessed Gods help and faithfulness to the fatherless innumerable times! God takes great joy is seeing the ‘least of these’ prosper and succeed. What a privilege it is for us to know Gods children and to share God’s joy in them!
