TWAM Centre has implemented the Healthy Start Feeding Program in Chipanda Village where our project is located in Malawi. Food is scarce in these small villages and it’s not uncommon for children to eat nothing for one or two days at a time. I have walked through the villages and seen small children weeping from hunger and have been very troubled by it. Our aim is to provide good nutrition not just food to fill ‘the void’. The meals we serve consist of mixed beans (for optimum protein), rice, a porridge called phala (rice, peanuts, soy all ground into flour and mixed with powdered milk), vegetables, fruit and a multiple vitamin.

The recent feedback has been: “I tell you, the children are happy, even the guardians are so happy and really thanking you for the food which the children are eating every day. The chief is also very happy and grateful to you! Children have been flocking to the place to get food and guardians want their children to be registered. Thank you for everything.”

TWAM is currently feeding 40 children and cannot take more without additional funding. It only takes $15 per month to feed a child 2 meals per day.
