A mental image comes to my mind of a mother hen gathering her little chicks around her. When I am visiting one of the TWAM children’s homes, I gather the children around to listen to what is happening in their world. They are so eager to share, to laugh, to sit and visit . What a privilege it is for me! I particularly love to see the students who have graduated. An extraordinary amount of work goes into raising a child, and I feel that operating a children’s home requires even more from the caregivers then from a parent. First is the sheer number of children! Take the problems that parents have raising one child and multiply it by 125 for St. Devi’s Academy! But at St. Devi’s, it’s not just raising and educating the children, but there is the never-ending battle of funding the project. So, when I have the opportunity to see our graduates, to see them thriving, it is extremely gratifying, a thrill, in fact!
Yesterday I spoke with Piter and Rebecca. Piter spent his whole childhood at St. Devi’s. He is now 23, a grounded, Christian young man who is studying Bio Medical Research. Wow, I have to admit to being blown away with such lofty aspirations! The good news is that he is doing well at university. God be with you, Piter.
Rebecca also spent 13 years at Devi’s. She has fond memories of St. Devi’s and considers it home. She has remained in touch with Devi and others from the school. Last fall she graduated with a BA in Hotel Management. She recently signed a 2 year contract with a hotel in Qatar. She is very excited for such a wonderful opportunity to earn good wages and to experience another culture. The possibility of a church to attend in Qatar is slim, but Rebecca assured Devi and me that she will be ok. She reads her Bible daily and trusts God to lead her. As soon as Rebecca’s paperwork is complete she will fly to Doha. I am so pleased to have met up with her before she leaves.
