The monsoon season has begun in Nepal which is the cue to plant rice.  The Himalayan mountains and hills are terraced for the planting of rice, mustard (the seeds are used and the oil) and maize.  The people in these regions have always relied upon these terraces to produce the food necessary to feed their families.  Since the two large earthquakes and the continued daily tremors of 4.2 – 5.2 magnitude, many people are worried about landslides.  The earthquakes are in the past but the consequences remain. Most of the mountains and hills now contain fissures and if the rains are heavy, there is a greater possibility of landslides and disasters. Even so, the people are trying to put thoughts of calamity from their minds and focus on the tedious job of rice planting.  Rice is vital because it, combined with lentils, is eaten daily.  Please pray that the Nepali people will have a good rice harvest so they can feed their families.
