Malawi is an agrarian country. Even their exports, tobacco, sugar and tea, are grown rather than manufactured. Maize is the dominant crop grown in Malawi because the staple food is nsima, ground maize boiled into a thick paste. Everyone plants at the beginning of the rainy season and all are dependent on rain for their crops; sprinkler systems are non-existent. December through March or April is the typical rainy season and this year there is a drought. Already the country is impacted and without rain the people will not have food. At present food prices have escalated 5%. At the TWAM Centre we also grow maize to feed our children and so our project is sustainable. Please pray that God will send the rain needed to save the maize and save the people from hunger.
“If you walk in My statues and keep My commandments, and perform them, then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.” Leviticus 26:4
