We are working full steam ahead on the rebuilding in Nepal. It is essential that we get all the classes back in session soon because the students have already missed 2 months of school. Devi and David are trying to make our money stretch as far as possible with innovative ideas. The garage has been temporarily converted to the Nursery classroom/play area. The vehicles were moved outdoors, the walls were painted and carpet rolled out on the floor. One of the higher grades is occupying the stage of the outdoor auditorium. This large area is used as playground on most days but when there is assembly, graduation or other large school gatherings, chairs are set-up outside facing the stage. In the photo one can see that the wall has been damaged but rebuilding that will come later. The government has required us to build an ‘emergency escape’ stairway up to the second floor. That particular part of the compound is a wing on the original 4-story building. The stairway is in an awkward location and cuts into the playground but it had to be built in order to comply with regulations. Fortunately we are able to get the work done on a payment basis because we still do not have the funds to cover all the expenses. We cannot afford to remain in debt but obviously, we need to have the school operational quickly.
