Yesterday I took my little granddaughter, Olivia, shopping. She will be 4 ½ in January. She wore her new antlers and wore them proudly. As I pushed her in the grocery cart she shook her head ever so slightly at random people, giving them a jingling hello. I smiled as I watched her interacting with people, making them smile. Oh to have the confidence and innocence of a child! Olivia wore the antlers without a thought of whether people might think she was silly or stupid. She wore them without wondering if she was ‘pushing the season’. She didn’t ask herself whether the antlers made her look fat. Olivia simply wore the antlers because it made her happy, and it gave me joy to share the moment with her.
I have a sign on my desk which reads: “Enjoy the LITTLE things in life, for someday you will realize they were the BIG things.
