A few months ago someone donated a little red ’Radio Flyer’ tricycle his little girl had outgrown. I thought I probably could not use it but put it in my garage. Last week I discovered the trike has a lever which allows it to fold. With that discovery, I realized it would fit into a large plastic bin. With the tricycle in the bin, I’d be able to take it to Malawi!! Wouldn’t the children at ‘Happy Hearts’ love it?! But among so many children, one tricycle isn’t enough. I went to Walmart, Target and also checked on-line but could not find the same ‘folding’ model tricycle. The idea of taking the trike to Malawi was pretty much squelched until yesterday. I stepped out of my car and there, parked on the sidewalk in front of me, was a red ‘Radio Flyer’ tricycle! I quickly ascertained it was the ‘folding’ model. The trike was outside of a ‘gently used’ store but inside was 2 more pink tricycles exactly like the red ones!! What are the chances of that? I purchased them for $15 each. Later I removed the seats and the front wheel of each trike and with a lot of manipulation, like putting together a puzzle, all 4 fit into one bin!! Before we actually leave on the next Malawi trip, I’ll work children’s clothes into all the gaps to keep the tricycle parts from rubbing against each other. Can’t wait to introduce the ‘Happy Hearts’ children to tricycles!!
