There has been no internet access, the electricity has been sporadic, and at times there has been no running water, but my lost bag arrived safely from Johannesburg with everything intact. Praise the Lord!
We had piles of brand new dresses, shorts & shirts (for the boys) and shoes. A department store in the States had an ‘end of season’ clearance sale and generously sold these clothes to TWAM for $1 each. We were thrilled and grateful beyond words and very eager to pass out the clothes to the children of Chipanda Village!! Lucy, Hastings, Rose and Suzy divided the clothes into sizes then one-by-one we transformed the children with new underwear, socks, shoes & clothes. Every child received 2 pair of underwear, 2 outfits and many received shoes.
Something amazing happened during this process. When the children came in with their ill -fitting clothes, some with holes and dirty, they were downcast. After they received their new clothes, the children seemed to blossom. They had huge smiles on their faces, they giggled and started teasing and playing with each other. It was obvious they not only looked different on the outside but they felt different on the inside. I think they were filled with a bit of dignity. Maybe it wasn’t just the beautiful clothes that made them feel beautiful, but the fact that someone cares enough to help.
